2 knits and a... (who has time to read)?

Fresh off the needles is this vest.  I knit it for no one in particular because it would use up small amounts of leftover skeins.  It is 100% cotton and was a very simple knit.  I made some changes to the front neckline as I wanted it to come up higher than the pattern called for.

I tried steam blocking since the pieces are straight and square and cotton.  It worked fine for this but I'll still feel more comfortable doing the traditional wet blocking in the future.  I can see that if I was in a hurry, say I needed something to be finished in time to gift (like the sweater for the baby shower from this book shown drying on the washing machine), steaming is the way to go.

Now it's time for my very favorite part... choosing the buttons.  Of course my buttons of choice would be the wood ones my husband made.  Oh yea.  He didn't make any.  (I hope he can take a hint)!

  1. Lovely vest! I'm working on a "tea party top" for my little one - looks like a similar pattern! No time for much reading here either ;)

  4. I can't wait to be that fast and to have left over stashes of yarn to add to my things that need to be stored somewhere....arrgghh. Why does being crafty take so much stuff? It is a really cute little vest.

  8. Hope your hubby reads your blog. (Although you could always read it to him!)
The vest is darling, no matter what buttons you choose. Good for you, thrifty girl, for using up those bits and pieces...especially when you produce such a cute project!
Hope you're enjoying your quiet week. (Have you called yet? Just so you could hear some girly chatter?)

  9. Maybe you should be reading the book "How to Get Your Husband to Carve You Some Wooden Buttons" - I'm sure I've heard of that book somewhere.......

  10. Cute! Hope your husband takes the hint. In spring I don't do much reading either. By the end of the day, it's all I can do to keep my eyes open long enough to say my prayers.

  11. It's adorable Debbie. I really need a baby here to knit for!
Ha, I have buttons cut and sanded and they are still waiting for
their holes to be drilled so I can wax them! Seems the way things go here, especially at this time of year.
Have a lovely yarn along day.

  15. It's darling!! I hope your husband gets the hint :o). I'm going to have to learn about blocking. I have no clue how I am supposed to do it. Maybe that's why I''m better off sticking with scarves and hats :oS.

    Blessings!

  16. I am with you..I can't figure out everyone turns out so much knitting and can read a novel. I would have to have a book-on-tape to participate and even then, I think it would distract me! It is impresseve for those that can do it! I love what you made - it is adorable! such cute colors.

  18. I love the white little sweater on the washer...that one is so sweet but both are lovely. I truly wish I could knit. I can knit a scarf but have never done anything with a pattern. Great work!
