"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! the day the fog rolled in

Today I want to talk about friends.  In fact I want to talk specifically about these 2 friends.  You may recognize the master mind and the valley friend from this post.  Or you may remember the 3 amigos from this post.  I am blessed.  I am blessed.  I. Am. Blessed.

The mastermind, I will refer to on this trip as my convertible friend.  We buzzed up and down the coastline in a SAAB convertible thanks to her.  We surprised the third friend by showing up in scarves and sunglasses 'Thelma and Louise' style because of her.  We entered the grocery store giggling like out of control schoolgirls because of her.  We made a creative purchase that will be sent to a fourth friend in Montana so she knows she should have been with us, because of her.  To coin a phrase used by my daughter (to describe someone else) that sums her up perfectly... my convertible friend is "a party in a person."

My valley friend, I will refer to on this trip as my silver box friend ~ thanks to the memory of a silver box brought by her to birthday celebrations that will now forever represent encouragement.  Because of her we fasted and prayed for the heart burdens we brought with us.  Because of her I stayed up way too late sharing, listening and finally falling asleep pondering the tender words she had penned and intended to soon gift.

Now don't think that I am stereotyping here.  My convertible friend can turn around and be my giver of sage advice, and the first to spill tears of empathy.  And I would not be in the least surprised if my silver box friend turned to me with soda straws hanging from her nostrils!  This is so true!!

blessed, convertible, silver box

Why they drag me along?  I'm not going to waste time trying to figure it out...  I'm just hopping in that convertible with my silver box and singing out loud because I can.  One friend will laugh until I do, the other will tell me I sound great... because... that's what my friends do.

Blessings, Debbie

  4. Besides the gift of His son, and the creation of family, I truly believe that friendship is God's greatest masterpiece.

"They" say that to have a friend you must be one. I think "they" are right. Obviously, you know how to pick a friend and how to be one too.

  11. Yes. You. Are. Blessed. (Love that "party in a person" description....)

Also wanted to say re. your comment about "Wonderful Grace of Jesus"--It's definitely a song that needs to be "roared"! I always loved it when sung in the company of a strong & enthusiastic bass section!

Thanking God for you & the encouragement of Christian friendships - the face-to-face kind AND those forged via blogging. ♥

  12. Hey - I want your friends!! Actually, I've had friends like that - but sadly, moving away brings an end to such adventures - especially since we all live thousands of miles apart and our lives are on different paths. So happy for the times the Lord allowed us to nurture each other through the gift of female friendship. You truly are blessed to have such enduring friendships remaining in your life beyond facebook.

    Joy!

  19. Aww, what great friends you have! Sounds like a WONDERFUL time. Those pictures are beautiful! I think I will have to come visit your part of the west coast one of these days. :)

PS. Thank you so much for your prayers. I really feel like I do have super immunity this pregnancy, because our colds only lasted a day or so which is amazing. :)

  25. Debbie, I think that a true friend is a rare gift. Acquaintances are a dime a dozen, but a true friend is a very special blessing. Thank you for sharing your friends with us today (they both seem to be treasures), as well as some more of your trip.
    Love,
Cheryl...who is always inspired by you and considers you to be a "true friend" that I simply have not seen in person :-)
