My toasty home is my delight at the moment. I haven't anywhere to be today and that's great because there's no other place I would rather be than curled in the couch corner reading out the spelling words or getting the rhythm of our current read aloud. We've begun Kim by Rudyard Kipling. Somehow this one eluded me in my youth so the girls and I will discover it together. Tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday and for the first time in years we have no plans for watching it. Now before you get all concerned I didn't say we won't watch it.. we will. We just don't have a party to go to. The girls are a bit perturbed by this, I'm just sighing and walking slowly, pretending that life is always this unplanned and the calendar engagement free. La, la...
The warm glow of daytime lighting
The warm sun through a chilled window
A miniature home within a home
Restored shoolhouse chairs from a local school
A modern schoolgirl doing her schoolwork in a restored schoolhouse chair
A history report
A toasty cat in a toasty room
Quick knits alongside the not so quicks
More warm winter glow
A winter meal
..by candlelight
..with a glass of wine served by a handsome husband
These are a few of my favorite things...
Blessings, Debbie
Beautiful pictures making up your nice poem! Wow...ha...that cat! so silly/brave/dangerous!
ReplyDeleteNice post!
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful list of favorite things! I love your school table, it's just lovely. Such beautiful pictures today. How is your little mama-to-be? I have been thinking about you both a lot lately.
ReplyDeleteI felt warm and fuzzy just looking at your pictures tonight! Snowing and -7 here.....wool socks in bed is as cozy as I am going to get tonight. ;)
ReplyDelete...I miss you...
ReplyDeleteI feel more relaxed myself after reading about your low-key SuperBowl afternooon...I absolutely love the first few photos of your home. And we have a few similar doll houses to yours--all painted. I like the idea of staining the outside. I might have to find just one more in distress and see if I (well, I mean "he") can duplicate the exterior on yours.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Debbie. Isn't it just the best not having anywhere to go sometimes! We have just finished our very long summer holiday break from school and I am having trouble getting back into the swing of a totally hectic timetable that now encompasses most of our day. Enjoy your winter, it looks gorgeous outside!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post, Debbie. I love your pottery on the hutch and also the signage on the hearth. Your house sings with love and contentment. I used to have that knitted gifts book. I wonder where it is?
ReplyDeleteLove coming your way! Yay for no parties! I'm going to take a nap during the big game.
What a delightful home you portrait here, including the roasting cat, lol... It's all so homey.Who needs a party....
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.

Oh, I'm comin' over! I like the oval painting in the first photo, and I LOVE your dishes! As for the toasty kitty - wowee! You can imagine how the title of this post drew me in - as if he (she? I can't remember is this cat is a male or female to SAVE MY LIFE) wouldn't be warm enough with such a coat. We don't have a heater like that - is it really hot on top of there??? Mama mia. But Dolly likes to go behind the couch and sleep for hours right up against the baseboard heater, with her little face right there.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your peaceful day at home!
I laughed so hard when I saw that photo of your toasty cat. Too darn funny! Oh how I love cats. Your home is such a delight - so full of warmth, family, character, and treasures. No wonder you're thrilled to just be able to stay put. And my smile grew wider at the last photos; we have those same plates :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day and you were roasting a cat, that is so funny. Your home looks so warm and inviting.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so peaceful.
What delights! Love the roasted cat. I would like to learn that trick myself. I think I might look a little awkward though.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely cozy day. I am smiling at the "roasted cat."
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed seeing the snap shots of your lovely home, but I cannot believe that cat. How?
ReplyDeleteyou have a lovely peaceful home and we too will be staying in for the game, just the two of us! It's kind of nice :)
ReplyDeleteBookshelves loaded with good books and sweet people with whom to share life! Thanks for sharing a peek into your corner of the world :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and cozy post.
ReplyDeleteLook at all these comments... girl! Looks like we all loved this post and could relate to the cozy going on around here...in your home.
ReplyDelete{sweet!}
I love that chippy dresser that the miniature house is sitting on.
Your pictures make me feel warm even though it has been snowing and freezing here for a couple of weeks. What exactly are you roasting that cat on? I think I need one.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your unplanned moments. I love mine, too!

I love it when I get a day at home! Your home looks so cozy...I don't think I'd leave either! Love that picture of the cat on the woodstove...too funny!
ReplyDeleteA day at home is a gift. I never watch the SuperBowl, and when I was single never even had it on. Mister is watching it, I am playing about and visiting.
ReplyDeleteCats....our long haired cat is like that. They just don't get their flammability factor!
A roasted cat indeed lol!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, I have been absent from your blog for a long while. I recall having problems commenting a while back, but it is all fixed again now...I see I have a lot to catch up on in your neck of the woods :)
Your beautiful home looks so welcoming, cosy and warm...

what a delightful way to spend a quiet weekend!!! On a cold wintry day, I might give your cat some competition on that heater!!!! cozy.
ReplyDeleteI see you're using the same cotton as I am for what looks like a knitted washcloth -- my favorite colorway for doing so. Your home looks so cozy, Debbie. Nothing like a fire in the stove... Blessings. :)
ReplyDeleteI need some of this in my life right now...
