"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! i'm ready for a boston tea party

Yes.  I am one of those who procrastinates a bit when it comes to adding figures and adding figures and adding more figures.  Blah!  Thankfully I have a budding accountant in the house.  She actually likes it.  It's completely beyond me...  Erin was a big help, but it was Audrey who actually complained when there was something going on that might take her away from the task.  When the girls left yesterday (to stay with friends for spring break) I was left with a minimum of wrap up.  I was eager to get it done by lunch so I could enjoy the rest of my day.  At 4:00 pm I had to cancel prayer meeting because not only was I certain that I would soon find the $119.20 I had been looking for ALL day but my neck and back ached and I hadn't even thought about cleaning and dinner prep.  When Larry got home our wonderful friends popped over with some food and the most encouraging prayer, then left us alone to tackle the problem together.  At 8:30 I finally closed the book and put away the adding machine.  I'ts done and I have only one thing to say...  Audrey, "WHERE ARE YOU WHEN I NEED YOU?"

My weekend was a blast.  Crazy, wonderful friends story telling and laughing until 3:00 am.  I actually made it if you don't penalize me for taking a catnap in the middle of the shenanigans!
Blessings, Debbie

  1. It's always the last silly amount that gets me. Several hours lost trying to work out where the last teeney, tiny bit goes. Madness. How lovely that both your girls can do it!

  2. Can you believe there are really people who love doing all these numbers? My sister is an accountant as is my uncle. Me, I would rather knit! It's nice you had some help and it sounds like you had a great weekend. 3:00 a.m.? I don't thing I could hang that long! :)

  3. Well, Hello twin!
Not only am I a fellow procrastinator, but I also hate to crunch numbers. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to breed an accountant either to the bulk of all headaches generally falls to that poor dear husband of mine.

  5. I am a simple math lover. The basics. My son is a math major and I cannot even begin to understand what he is learning or talking about :/ I admire that you stayed up until 3 am!!!!!

  6. Yesterday I got around to my state income tax form - after which I felt so bleary-headed, I had to sit in the sun, nap, and do some quilting; all toward helping me to feel like a human being again!

  7. I'll meet you in Boston for tea! :)
Filing taxes this year(which for us two English degree holding people means sending things to the CPA)STILL made my head ache! THEN I was HOPPING MAD about the return amount...trying to be joyful in the fact we are GETTING anything at all back from that scurvy uncle sam...
I think it's great that your girls LIKE doing it!(Not one of mine shows any promise in that area!)

  8. I keep track of out farm expenses and such, but balancing the cheque book is Colin's job. I keep our farm records on an excel sheet, that way the computer does the math -I just need to put the numbers in right :P

  10. How wonderful for your daughter to help you out with your accounting! My hubby excels in that area much more than myself!

I am so glad that you enjoyed time with your friends. Those are just the best times! :)

  11. I am an accounting lover, but have gotten into those "I just can't find it!!" moments too. Sometimes it helps when you walk away and come back to it later. Yay for friends to make it better!

  12. My husband does the financial stuff around here but we still need an accountant for the farm business as it's so complicated.
Sometimes it's just some numbers that have been transposed backward to throw a wrench in the cogs. It helps to just leave the numbers for a while because we tend to think in the same groves and fail to think outside the grove and keep looking for something that isn't there. Do I male sense?
Nice to have a smart daughter to help with the accounting. JB

  13. Tea party? I'm in! Still haven't started ours...hoping procrastination pays off...but, then I hope that every year and it just doesn't. I'm a slow learner.

  14. Must be nice to have a live-in accountant! Had to do some banking today. Yuck! Is it just me or does the bank small like the doctor's office. Believe it or not I majored in accounting. Which is the strangest thing since I can never get my checkbook to balance. (I always assume it's my fault and just take the bank's word for it when they say my balance doesn't jibe with theirs.)

  15. I am always ready for a tea party, :-) I did my taxes very early this year in anticipation of a crazy March and am glad it is over and done with. Usually I am just starting to scurry around. xo

  16. Glad you finally found the trouble. Nothing much more frustrating. How nice that your neighbors brought in supper and a prayer.

  17. Yikes. That is the stuff of nightmares. Having an accountant in the family would be a great boon.

  18. Oh, I'm so glad you had a great weekend!! And I think that taking a nap is a perfectly sensible thing to do! (A "power nap" is sometimes the only thing that gets me through the day.)

I am amazed at anyone who does taxes! I know that it's "supposed" to be simple...but my oh my, it does not look simple to me. Thankfully, Ron was a business major in college, and doing taxes is something that he has done from the beginning. (Whew!) I know you must have been frustrated trying to find the error...ack! How gracious of your friends to bring dinner and pray! And how about that Audrey? What a girl! :D

  20. Oh, that would have been frustrating! I'm glad you finally got it figured out! I would have sneaked in a cat nap over the weekend too :o).

    Blessings!
