the fifteen ounce baby jacket

The One Pound Baby Jacket (Snug) is off the needles and on the blocking board.  Three of the buttons are sewn on and the fourth (at the neck) is yet to be selected from the button bucket.  When the bulky sweater is finished drying I'll sew him on, roll up the cuffs and cozy it in with the other baby knits that are waiting for a chubby body to fill them.

The book is a new acquisition.  I'm very visual and this book is inspirational eye candy.  Even if I never did sew a garment from the pages (which I will) the natural palette, natural fibers and casual patterns would inspire me to... something.  My daughter spotted it at Joann's the other day while we were picking up a few things during their 'make your own sale' (which means I had a 50% off coupon).  She knows her mama.

And do you see that cream colored ball nestled in among the other hand-spun?  It weighs exactly 1 ounce,   making my One Pound Baby Jacket more accurately dubbed the Fifteen Ounce Baby Jacket.  And if we really want to get technical, the 'baby' jacket would be more accurately termed the 'toddler' jacket as I'm certain it's going to be quite roomy on an 18 month old and fit nicely up to about 4 years!  With this much wool invested I'm happy about that...  A generous couple years of wearing will make this grammie happy!

  2. How adorable! Those balls of yarn in the basket look luscious. Did you spin them? I'm working on a baby bunting right now. It's so heavy, I'm thinking it will take a strong baby to wear it!Son and daughter-in-law called to say she's two months along! Please pray for them as she has had several miscarriages. But for now the doctor says everything looks very good.

  3. I love the baby jacket...a lot...but you know what else I love? The big bucket-bag in the picture where the jacket is laying out flat. I think I need one of those...or maybe two or three.
    Thanks for sharing.

  11. This is wonderful. I really like the simple stitch and shape of the pattern with the hood. I put it on my Ravelry favorites. Boy, I wish I had knit some of these when my children were younger. Wonder if it could be up-sized?

  24. That sweater is gorgeous! I love it!! Oooooo...I know you can't wait for a sweet little someone to wear it!
The book is intriguing. Let us know how you like it. I am going to look for it at my local library. (I often find it's the best way to see if a book is something that you want to purchase for your own. Unless you have a 50% off coupon, that is!)

I so appreciate your thoughtful and kind comment on my recent blog post. I'm trying to decide whether to share it with my husband, who does not think that I'm a "measurer of words!" He thinks that I'm chatty, which I can't imagine. ~sheepish grin~

    Blessings to you...

  25. Debbie, It's gorgeous! I have to tell you I stopped at JoAnn's today and used my three coupons to buy watercolors for my kiddos and new buttons for a blazer I found for my mister at the Goodwill the other day (and the jacket was the half-price color, too -- woohoo!!). I love a bargain. Happy sewing, my friend.

    Blessings, ~Lisa

As to the book - I was drooling over it at Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago - but didn't buy it. I may need to go get it after all....
