"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! great and grand

Erin enjoying the gift of instruction from her mama's mama's mama, a.k.a. Granny.

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.  Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.  Titus 2:3-5

  2. I love this. I just love it.
I remember when I was a young homemaker and mommy and working on a dress for my daughter. I hadn't sewn in years and so was doing the work at my mother's house instead since I was rusty. It just so happened that my grandmother was visiting from Virginia at the time. (Dad's mom) My mother told me that if I wanted to take advantage of the gift of a master seamstress, NOW was the time. All I needed to do was be willing to listen. She was right, I learned more making that one dress than in years of sewing classes as a young girl. She just shared one tip after the other, even though her eyesight was really bad and she would have to lean in really closely to see what I was making. It was wonderful.

Sorry. The picture prompted the memory, and the memory popped out.

ps you'd laugh to see the thing I just attempted to work with the beads before I ripped it out and started over!! LOL! I go backwards almost as much as I go forwards with my knitting... much like I do in life. ;)

  4. Beautiful photo essay. Granny looks quite spry! My girls just have their grandmas - the greats left this earth when my girls were little.

I am not sure but based on the shape of the face - I would say there is a resemblance between those two.

  9. Oh you hit my heart....my grandmother would set beside me and do my hand sewing or my reaping. I miss her so much! This is just precious...I wish I had pictures like this..what a treasure. Passing these things down is such a lost art these days, I pray I get to pass them down to some grand daughters one day!

  10. I learnt so much from my Grandma. She had the patience and time to sit down and teach me lots of sewing techniques. I wish I had sat down and listened more. Such a beautiful post.

  15. What a beautiful scene to see. I remember being in that kind of lesson from my mama. My Grandma live too far away to be blessed this way. I pray your dd cherishes all this in her heart. That is a gift that is worth more than anything someone could buy her.

    Blessings and ((HUGS))

  16. Hi Debbie,
How wonderful that you captured these moments in photography to remember. I love this!

I DO have to give a shout of, "WOOHOOO!!!" for her teaching her to sew (my mom patiently taught me how to...God bless her for doing that)! I also have to give a cheer of happiness to see a BROTHER sewing machine. I have had one for a very long time, it has been the best machine EVER!! I LOVE IT! My dear hubby bought me another one for my last birthday, to have an extra one...because I loved my other one so much...:)

I hope you have a blessed day schooling your beautiful children. May God reward you for doing that! I know He will...:)

    xoxo...Gloria

  17. Boy, all of your clan must have gotten young or else you are sneaking little sips of water from the fountain of youth...this vibrant woman is YOUR grandmother? It is such a blessing to share the generations. My children never got to meet one grandmother (and one grandfather -other side), but they did cherish the time with the GG (and great grandfather) albeit too short.
