just me and the body snatcher

As I stated once before ~ misery loves company.  Although I am a bit unnerved at the thought that these feelings are common and may last awhile, your encouragements and advice are like balm to this weary woman.  I read each of your comments with thankfulness and prayer.  I'm on day 3 of the fish oil Mary...

This said, things (I) continue to be wonky.  This morning Annie (the pom) got me up early.  As soon as my husband woke up, I hightailed it back to bed and slept until 11:30!  This after going to bed 2 hours early the night before.

Couple that with my new favorite pastime... sitting and staring...  and you can forget everything I just said about company (the kind that misery loves).

I have no company.  I am alone.  I am an alien, that's all there is to it.  I've been inhabited by a body snatcher.

On that note you may discount anything you see here in the future that seems unusual.  I can no longer take responsibility for the content, you understand.  I've already informed my family that I refuse to be held responsible for my actions as wife and mother until the snatcher vacates!

This is my family leaving for the lake without me.  Do you blame them?  Truth be told, they actually wanted me to come...  Weird.  I told them that I needed to make different choices for a few days.  Choices that involve sleep, sitting and staring, and fish oil...

So they left me at home this afternoon with my workaholic/napping buddy...  Let's see, shall I sit and stare some more or take a little nap?  Argh, too much to think about..  Move over Cory!

Good night, Debbie

  1. Hi Debbie,

I love your photography and you have a beautiful family too. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am glad to have found yours! I particularly like the statement in your bio that because you are made in the image of the Creator you also create. Well said.

  2. Debbie, I want to know if that fish oil works!!!

Knitting is my solace... I can sit and stare at it without feeling too guilty... like someone is going to call the productivity police if I am not doing something! The passage of menopause is by far the most difficult I've had to navigate. Some days now.... I almost see a glimmer... of something brighter. Not enough to hold on to yet. But, glimmers. Others of us are travelling the same waters... hold the course... blessings and hugs ~ tanna

  3. Every morning I write down what I would like to get done. Then I try my best. Sometimes doing nothing is something for me, it could restore one's energy. Take care! ~Karen

  4. what a pretty daughter! the doggie is too cute. sometimes when i'm in a sit and stare mode, the quiet of the family going OUT for fun without me is JUST what gives me the boost to make it thru the next few days. :)
hope you did rest and that it was restorative. may this difficult time draw you closer to Him.

  5. Glad you're taking fish oil Debbie, but have you had your thyroid levels checked? I live with Graves Disease so I try to read everything that is published about thyroid's. "They" say over 2 million women have a problem and just don't know it. I am not a doctor, but it might not be such a bad idea to have a little blood work done. Blessings to you and I do hope things get better.xx

  6. I know I mentioned it before Debbie and you said that you had your thyroid checked, but what you are describing is exactly how I was before I started on thyroid medication. I couldn't even hold a conversation, I was so tired and my mind was in such a fog. The standard blood work that I had at my annual check-up didn't catch it. I needed a more in-depth test. Do you have really dry, brittle nails? Losing hair? Dry skin? I'd go back to the doctors and describe how I feel. Concerned about you, my friend.

  7. So sorry...I am addressing this later this week and how I dealt with it for this time.

I am on natural progesterone...only use it a little and black cohash. I try to stay as natural as possible. I also up my vitamin B and D...these are just the things I have researched and seem to be helping...that is if nothing else is wrong.

Prayers for you...hoping those body snatchers don't stay long...I will be praying for you...so, so, sorry!!!

  8. I was going to mention thyroid too. I have hypothryroid. It runs in my family, so I had mine checked several nearly ten years ago. Sure enough - we caught it early.

Rest is good. Take the opportunity to do it, but check with your doctor about the thyroid, also.

  9. Hello Debbie! WHAT a cute Pom! I have a Pom grandpup and I can't get enough of her. Henri Nouwen says that loneliness brings hostility and solitude brings hospitality. Rest is good.

  10. Yes I am saying it too get to the Doctor it may be thyroid or maybe something else. Please go and take care of yourself. I have been there, mine turned out to be depression but I am glad I went to make sure the aliens were not real.
You will get through this I am sure of that BUT you must take care of finding out what the problem is before it consumes you. I wish I could help.
Take care and phone right now, simple blood test.
I write Our Journey from memory, I do not take fish oil it is just things I will never forget.
Please take care of yourself your family needs and loves you. B

  11. take care of yourself and get over to the doctors for some testing...no need to struggle through this without an indicator of what is going on. I'm thankful to hear your sense of humor is still shining through. I'll be praying for you.

  13. Debbie, the reason that those things are on the menopause list also, is because the thyroid tends to take a dip when you reach that stage of life. The list are kind of like horoscopes anyway, you can read anything you want in them. You definitely know that you aren't yourself and that should be reason enough to have a confab with the doctor. When how you feel is keeping you from enjoying your lovely family and life, you know something is up. The trick is finding a doctor that will listen and spend the time to help you figure it out.

  14. To add to the other suggestions here, I'll add that I've struggled tremendously through my 40s (am 47 now) and have tried/used just about everything. Currently, I'm on thyroid med. and take an herbal called Maca which you can read more about here: http://www.wholeworldbotanicals.com/info_royalmaca

My midwife recommended Maca to me a year ago and it changed my life. Isn't it amazing how gracious God was to provide in His creation all that we might need in this life?

Will keep you in my prayers...

  15. Oh Debbie my heart hurts for you and the struggle you are going through. I am not the bit surprised that your family wants you near-- you are the heart of them. I hope the fish oil and rest work. You are in my thoughts! Lots of hugs are being sent your way--I am not one to send virtual or give in the moment hugs but I wish them for you. You are beautifully and wonderfully made, my friend.

  16. I would say go to the doctor but since I never go to the doctor myself and I read all of these things to diagnose my problems and I do have some months like that where I wonder who took me and where did I go. I start taking vitamins, and oil like you are doing, I also take some Acidolphus
because that helps quiet my mind. It takes a few days but my strength does return and I am not so tired. When I made my plain yogurt I was eating like crazy and that helped a bunch.
I feel so bad for my family, and the concern I see on their faces, I start exercising because I have found that helps it the most.
I am praying that it is something that is easy to fix.
I will keep praying for you,

  17. Naps! Naps are always the best idea. But sitting and staring is my favorite past time too! :D

One of my herbal books says that Motherwort reduces the "discomfort of menopause" and when symptoms include "irritability and anxiety", St John's wort is recommended by drinking an infusion of flowering tops three times a day. Although I supposed you could find supplements.

Whatever the problem may be (Big M or something else), I hope you are able to sail through it smoothly soon!

  18. Oh Debbie, I'm sorry to hear you've been feeling so worn out. I've had moments like those...I'm going to repeat the advice above - be still and know....and take lots of naps. Sending lots of love your way! R

  19. Dear Debbie,

How wonderful that your family could go to the lake, even if you could not join them. What a blessing to have the water nearby!

I'm going to second Meg by saying that Motherwort is supposed to soothe menopause (I take it in tincture form for nerves; someone has called it the "There, there" herb). If your adrenals need rebuilding, nettle seeds (I buy mine from Pacific Botanicals), taken a spoonful or so at a time, several times a day, is an amazingly quick way of rebuilding. I usually throw mine into my morning green smoothie (which I really recommend for building up iron). And then, of course, if your thyroid is low, taking kelp pills three times a day is good for rebuilding, but it is something that you have to do for a few months before you notice a difference. If you're using regular salt, switching to Real Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt can give you extra minerals, too.

I hope that you can get lots of rest, too. Nothing could be better!

    Love,

    Marqueta

  20. Dearest Debbie, again, I can't presume to know the "fix", and so I won't give you any pat answers. But I have been thinking about an Amy Carmichael poem that reaches into the deep places of the heart. I posted it on my blog some time ago. (http://thinking-about-home.blogspot.com/2009/11/hast-thou-no-scar.html) I even chose to commit it to memory because the words are so rich and true. Maybe it will speak to your heart too.

Continuing to think of you, and pray for you!

    Love to my Oregon sister...

  21. Debbie, fish oil works wonders, also Vitamin D, and drink lots of water. I am trying all these and do feel a little better, also not pushing too too hard, it will all get done. Wacky hormones ruling your body is a battle. xo, (Those doggies are so adorable)

  23. I am trying to catch up on all the great posts I missed while on vacation. (Loved that boat wedding post. Can I "big" on Cory?)

Joining you in the body snatchers club. Between this post and the "Be Still" one, you have described me completely. I don't like it either!
And to make matters worse, I don't even have a cute dog around this joint.

Fish oil for me, too. I'm open to any natural solution.

  24. I love your humor...keep it up it helps! I REALLY suggest you go over my post on Adrenal Gland Fatigue and get some CHIA SEEDS too. They really help with your energy and so much more. (((HUGS))) Yes, sleep and rest for it is sooooooo important. I do not want to tell you but it can take up to two years to treat your adrenals. But I have been noticing a difference all through the year that I have been changing things. You will get there sweetie just don't give up and keep putting one foot in front of the other and soon you will be walking across the floor.

Sending you extra BIG ((HUGS)) my friend

  25. Ohhh I forgot to say yeah on the fish oil. [o= Take one to three tsp/day depending how much sun you get. Also for energy wise I suggest the apple cider tonic. 1 Tbsp of ACV and 1 Tbsp of honey to a mug of hot water and drink. I would take this anywhere from 1-3x's/day as needed. Plus go look at the vitamins and supplements that are recommended in my AGF post. It really does make a difference.

    Blessings!
    -Mary

  26. When I was feeling this way a few months ago, I finally made an appointment with my doctor. I had a number of things "going on" one of which was low iron. If you've not visited your doctor in a while, it may be time. Yes, a little extra sleep is a great healer. All the best to you...

  32. Well Debbie, I am sorry you and I are in the same boat. But I am sort of glad to know I am not alone. I am trying to embrace changes in me and use them to move me forward, into a new season. But it is soo hard unsure of myself. I feel for you xoxo Clarice
