"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! a matter of style

I went to the thrift store a couple of days ago.
Just thinking today about individual style.  I'm not talking about good verses bad taste, I'm just wondering about personal preference.  I visit homes where everything is flower-y and cottage-y and the woman of the home is wearing a flow-y, air-y skirt...

someone had cleaned out their vintage restaurant ware!
Then there is the 'Easterner' where everything is oriental and lacquer and the woman is wearing a long, straight, simple lined top with slim pants.

10 of these...10!
I remember when I was in high school and I drove my mom (the flowery type) to distraction leaving the house in overalls with my hair in french braids!  So, now I'm thinking that through the years I've tried other looks, both on me and on the house but the default was always country farm-girl.

you can't see the wooden chunky dp knitting needles but they are there
~all for under $10.00...

I suppose that's why my in town, double lot back yard has been cross-fenced for farm animals... ; )

Blessings, Debbie

  4. I second La Tea Dah! If someone looked at my home they would think my style is 'mess'. I have a very electic style that is all over the place. I guess the same goes for how I dress, from over-alls to silk skirts depending on my mood. I love that we are not pigeon holed into one catagory and can be different.

  5. I love thrift store shopping and recently have been down sizing and donating a lot to our local thrift store in town that helps people. Feels wonderful. Happy Easter to you and your family!

  6. I'm an Easterner who wears jeans, t-shirt, and an apron (usually flowery unless it's the loon one) who really enjoys your style. What a great day at the thrift store!

  7. I love this...isn't it so true we all return to the things that we always loved anyway. I love your style and even though I am in the city I still feel warmth from country and loved when I decorated in country.

Love your comment on the concert...each of us have our styles with music also, but if the message is Jesus, then it doesn't matter. I have been through all the venues of music with my first five and I am wondering what it will sound like when my five year old gets to be a teen...I will be soooooooooooooo blessed if once again it points to our Savior.

I will have to check out that group and wasn't that video unreal...it has stayed with me all week and also with my five year old...it spoke very loud and clear.

Thanks Debbie for stopping by, I am so enjoying getting to know you.

  12. I am a farmers daughter at heart - my heart wonders often to the good old days -- wink! But for a few years now - I've been missing a veggie garden and wild flowers garden of my own - been traveling instead!

  13. Very interesting and thought provoking!
My home is a very personal expression of myself. My clothes?? Around home pretty old stuff is what I wear. Probably because I am always working on the house....

  15. Wow you found some good loot. Hey, I never know what my style is either, just what doesn't show dirt, or will hold up to lots of people and animals. I lived in overalls too, I am always sad when they go out of style for a bit but when they come back in style, I bring out the ones I have been saving.
I like overalls. I also like french braids.
    I really like your pictures.

  16. I think your finds are great. I annoy myself in that I can't figure out my style. I like so many different things about different styles that I keep changing.

And that's why my house is kind of a mutt.

  17. What a great find! It's such fun to hunt around in treasure shops :-)

I love your country style, Debbie! You seem well-defined and put-together, and I admire that so much. I wish I had a better sense of my own style. I'm not sure that I fit into any category. I live in jeans and knit tops, and my home is neat and tidy, but rather eclectic. I don't have a lot of ornaments. I tend to decorate with houseplants, pets, and children's toys ;-)
