"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! a restless evil

"I'm not boasting mind you, but everyone was so impressed ..."

Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body but it makes great boasts.  Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.  The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body.  It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

"Well, you know what I heard ..."

All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue.  It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

"Just look at Miss Goody - Good ..."

Brothers, do not slander one another.  Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it.  When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.  There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy.  But you - who are you to judge your neighbor?

Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at your word.
I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil.
I hate and abhor falsehood but I love your law.
Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws.
Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.
I wait for your salvation, O LORD, and I follow your commands.
I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly.
I obey your precepts and your statutes, for all my ways are known to you.

James 3:5-7
James 4:11-12
Psalm119:161-168

  2. Amen! We don't realize how powerful our words can be...we can uplift someone or tear them down with a single word. "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14

  4. This has always been a struggle for me, partly because of lack of impulse control (ADHD), but I seem to have gone WAY to the other side. Now, because I fear being inappropriate, I tend to withdraw from people. Balance is needed!!!

I chuckled over the chicken's comments and behavior. Makes me wonder what we look like sometimes!?! Thank heavens for God's grace!

  12. My tongue has really gotten me in trouble many times. Sometimes my brain shuts off and I say things that I shouldn't. These were lovely verses to remind me to think before I speak.

  17. I once had a flock of hens, and a strutting rooster to keep them in line!

You using chickens regarding the tongue is a wonderful illustration. I probably will have this pop into my mind quite often now and help me remember the importance of asking the LORD to set a guard over my mouth and a watch over the doors of my lips.

  18. Hello Debbie
Thanks for stopping by my blog. We had a lovely Mother's Day afternoon tea and my dear mum really enjoyed it.
I have printed off your Tortilla recipe and will try it tonight - I will make some chilli and lay out some lettuce, tomato, cheese, cucumber and sour cream and make soft tacos! Yum! I'll let you know how I go1

    Cheers - Joolz
