"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! a sudden death

Overnight we went from this:

To this:

all because of this:

in the hands of this:

When I spotted ant holes on the leaves of my young sunflower plants my superguy came to the rescue.   Unfortunately he only read on the can, "kills ants."

The moral to this sad story is ~ Read all of the information.  If it says "do not use on or near plants... DON'T!"

  5. Grrrr. Ants. They are in my sunflower garden, too. What to do? Ant dust? I hate poisons, but my husband doesn't. He's killed his beloved grass with a spray can in hand! More will grow, Debbie! Have a blessed day!

  6. Don't scare me like that...
So glad it wasn't something furry or feathered that died suddenly.
Hope it at least got the ants gone, too!
    Here's to second chances...plant again.

  7. Oh gee, poor things. Time to replant. :)One thing about sunflowers they are so easy to grow.
I did not know stuff would do that to plants. I will make sure I read the label.

  8. There is still time to plant more.
The other day my husband was helping me weed my garden and pulled up one of my pepper plants (thought it was a large weed) He knew something was amiss when I said, in a not so calm voice, NOOOO. He quickly replanted and all seems well. All because he was just trying to help.

  14. Oh no! Kind of creepy if you think about it. Don't get it on you! Ben did that to our mint once... But with highly concentrated Miracle Grow. Go figure.

  15. Gotta love those helpful husbands! It seems that ant killer kills everything but ants. We once had a dog that ate one of those little ant traps, he almost died from it, but the ants never disappeared.

  20. I am sooooooooooooooo sorry. (((HUGS))) Yes, reading ALL the instructions are important. We all learn more from our mistakes than our successes and I am sure you all will read ALL the instructions from now on...no matter what it is. [o;

  21. Why is it that men love to wield a good poison? Especially if it is in the name of ant killing?

    ReplyDelete
  22. OOops!! :( Atleast he tried to help, you have to give him credit for that! :)

    Have a good day!! :)

  26. Oops! I know his heart was in the right place! :-)
To answer your question...no, we did not grow the fruit. We have a very shady yard...not good for fruit trees or berry bushes. The blueberries are
$6/gal if you pick your own at the Berry Farm. Strawberries are about the same. I bought those at the grocery store for $2/pint. Peaches are $12/bushel. We live in the middle of peach country, so they are always abundant. This year, because of the dry weather, they are smaller...but my, my they are sweet! :-)

  27. The question remains, did he succeeded in killing the ants in the process? Your hubby now knows not to do it again. There is still time to plant sunflowers seeds. Good luck the second time around. JB

  28. Oh dear. Did you feed him supper? How discouraging. He'd better go get you some plants at the nursery about that size and plant them stat.

  29. Oh I had to laugh, because this is something my hubby would do!! Clarice

  30. Oh no! Do you still have time to replant? I hope so!
