Clarice at Storybook Woods has inadvertently issued a challenge. People need to be able to trust that we bloggers are keepin' it real. No whitewash here. In fact I'm going to take you to a place that I love... when all is organized. A place you've never been before. Today you will see why the camera is not usually allowed in this room. This same place is also the room that visitors dare not visit. Once, several months ago my young nephew took a wrong turn from the extra bathroom... I'm confident I'll find him when I get all the stuff out of here!
This is what my bedroom looks like when all is good. Unfortunately, the following photos tell a truer story. So, Clarice, this is for you...
Ideally there will be shelves in the two closets in my son's room when it turns into my craft room to hold the fabric and yarn and I'll be done with home schooling in just 4 years so I can get rid of many of the books and the games on top of the shelf are hard for the girls to reach so they have trouble stacking them back up neatly and they have to leave some stacked on the floor and my husband's closet is so small that he can't fit his shoes in... and the dog ate my homework and .... my excuses are my sanity.
So, there you have it, the real me! Will you still be my friend? Because my people are my life... Just keepin' it real...
Blessings, Debbie

I'll still be your friend! I should show you the boxes of homeschool books under beds and in corners of my home just waiting for their shelves to be build! And we aren't even going to open the spareroom door..shudder!
ReplyDeletePS- Love the quilt on your bed!
I'll still be your friend! I'm almost positive you have seen Her Majesty the Den Closet at my house, haven't you?
ReplyDeleteAnd you totally made me smile with that last part. "My excuses are my sanity".
You just rock.
I love your room, it looks so loving and cozy, and your 'stuff' is organized in neat areas. If I were brave enough I'd show you my future 'studio'. As I type this, I can't even get in the room and last week had to take a garden rake to hook a cupcake carrier for my husband to take his birthday cupcakes to work in. Hahaha, I laugh through the tears! So perhaps I sould ask if you will still be MY friend?
ReplyDeleteYou are even more loveable in your "realness". When I clean, I just move stuff from place to place...not really anywhere to put it...just tidy the stacks and go on.
ReplyDeleteI love your "real"! I wish my stacks looked as good as yours. (Most of mine look like that top shelf that contains your games.)
ReplyDeleteYour last post about hope touched my heart, by the way.
The area in front of our attic door looks like that. I always have to remove stacks of books and mail from the dining room table before I take a picture for my blog. It seems any flat surface is game for having something placed on it. Knitting and sewing projects, Aspires, cameras, magazines, etc. the list goes on and on. Even the mantle! When someone stops by unexpectedly we have to dash around picking everything up and tossing it in the back room and shutting the door.
ReplyDeleteI loved your school shelf. Mine looks the same way.
ReplyDeleteYou only have four years left? I only have two. My last student, is really scared about this year, being alone. He keeps coming in and asking what will we be doing. When I began in 1989 I don't think I ever dreamed it would be over so fast.
You know I think we had it the best, because we were the pioneers.
even with your clutter, it looks like nice clutter. :)
Of course I'll still be your friend! : )
ReplyDeleteThis is great! So many interesting things to see ...and really it looks like an organized "mess" to me. =D
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is not as messy as you think!! If you entered our store room, you'd never come out the same. Your furniture is wonderful, I love the white cabinet with the rounded corners and the green cabinet with the glass knobs.
ReplyDeleteAnn
Ooooh look at all the craft stuff!! Can I come visit? I would love to help you play wi... Er, I mean, clean up and put away.
ReplyDeleteYour furniture in there is gorgeous--my bedroom also has stacks and stacks, especially now that hubby is pastoring again and uses "my" computer to write his sermons. . . we don't keep a neat "shared" area very well. :)
ReplyDeleteThen there are the books in storage boxes UNDER the bed. . .
and the laundry-to-put-away . . .wow.
It IS on my "to-clean-soon" list, but the mess will then just gravitate to another room, usually.
:)
You were showing us a "mess"? What mess? I see a warm loving home with important items waiting to be put to good use. I am sure your nephew had fun in there, checking out books and games. Thanks for your visit and sweet comments. xo,
ReplyDeleteYour 'keeping it real' looks pretty good!
ReplyDeleteWe live in our homes - not in magazine photos...
Your room is lovely!
Deanna
Well I do not know if I can be friends with you Debbie. Your messy space is sooo much cleaner than mine and somehow your clutter looks soo charming ; -) LOL, I did not mean to throw down a challenge but thank you for keeping it real. (Now if I ever meet you, I will not worry!!) ; -P
ReplyDeleteNo seriously, thank you for trusting us and sharing all sides of yourself and your home. Even though we want to be positive on our blogs (nobody wants to read about others drama) it is good to, to show all sides of ourselves and to be real. I think those who love us, will love us more when we are. Warts and all.
You made my day with your post xoxox Clarice-who is seriously coveting your red and white chair. LOVE it!!
it looks well lived in. and you know, it also tells me your priorities are in place - time spent with your family rather than cleaning and projecting an image of perfection. so yes, still friends!
ReplyDeleteI love it all... your style... ahhh, the quilts and wall hangings and furniture... all of it.
ReplyDeleteYes! even the stacks all around the room. Somehow it ALL makes me feel at home. :)
Thanks for keeping it real and sharing, my friend.
Oh, I just LOVE the messy! It is so organized, though! Anyone who quilts or sews knows the value in such a room as yours!
ReplyDeleteI have been to visit Clarice at her house. Such a lovely and authentic person --- I came home completely inspired!
Enjoy a great week! I'm sure life is extra beautiful in your part of the woods this time of year!!!
I am definitely your friend. My house is far worse!!! And... I loved your comment on my blog about Christians keeping it real and letting their hearts rule the compassion they show. THANK YOU
ReplyDeleteYAY! I love it! I love your "mess" cause it gets a little cluttered but it still looks clean. Now, can I come over?
ReplyDeleteYour mess is so well organized, it's not a mess at all but a nice temporary storage of valuables.
ReplyDeleteI will not be pointing the finger at your clutter because I have one too that I'm trying to organize. Mine is much bigger than your, lol. JB
Mess? What mess? That my dear is called living in your home...and we could all use more storage containers, shelves, etc..
ReplyDelete~~HUGS~~
It takes a lot of stuff to home school...my youngest graduated two years ago and I'm still sorting through books. Part of me just doesn't want to let go just yet:)
ReplyDelete♥
ReplyDeleteoh.. so nice post.)
Love your blog.))

I now spend a survey of bloggers with such questions.
1. Why did you create a blog?
2. For whom you taking him? Want to be popular?
3. How long will it keep going?
♥
Dear Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI second what the others said: What mess? Organized storage, but MESS? :) Our bedroom has two piles of laundry and bedding that keep getting rotated from one end of the room to the other, depending on who's looking for something. :) REALLY I'm going to get to getting it out of there soon!
Thanks for "keeping it real."
Love,
Marqueta
Funny, Debbie! I must say that I like it both ways! All those boxes and books look VERY interesting to me! I've done posts on my messes before. Creative minds need lots of junk, I guess. Smile.
ReplyDeleteForget the stuff Debbie, I am enjoying and envying those antiques! Wow so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed catching up on some of your previous post, as I have been offline for about two weeks.
Thanks for sharing.
Sue
Lovely. I love it!
ReplyDeleteMuch love.
Now that is a crafting corner :) Your array of stuff reminded me of my mother's sewing room, in a very good way of course!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, your room looks so much better than my office does right now!! After being gone a month, things got piled up and out of control (not that they were too much in control before I went to my daughter's, but I'm just sayin'). There looks like lots of fun stuff in that room!! blessings ~ Tanna
ReplyDeleteNothing t all to be ashamed of. We all have our little corners of clutter. But then we don't have to hunt too far to find everything!
ReplyDeleteI love the familiar look of this room! This is the place to go to get those things that are important....
ReplyDeleteThis is so so SO good. All of those games look like so much fun to me. The first pictures are beautiful, the last are warming to the heart.
ReplyDeleteYour whole bedroom is so lovely!! I love the green you've used. Simply an inviting place, even when books are everywhere, etc. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet comments about my father dying. I came here and was encouraged by the quote you have at the top of your blog. I've been so grouchy lately. What a sobering reminder.
Your bedroom is so *cosy* and *homey*. And the 'after' pics are not really all that bad but I always appreciate it when Bloggers 'keep it real'. I've done that a couple of times. It is humbling to do so but I think it is a good thing to do from time to time. (o:
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
You are very brave! I didn't dare post a before picture of the two closets we painted...too embarrassing! ha! ha!
ReplyDelete1) I will definitely still be your friend...in fact, I want us to be neighbors!
ReplyDelete2) Do you think that it is possible that we are long lost sisters? I mean, we have so much in common (I find out more and more as I get to know you), right down to that little tin in the bottom right corner of this post's last photo. In my house, it holds an assortment of tea bags.
3) You are welcome to enjoy my grandbabies vicariously (now I have the go-ahead to share pics galore!)...and I can't wait until you have your very own. It is delightful.
I love your real but I love the almost real too. My room is the same . I think you and I would get along very well.
ReplyDeleteI have the same sewing baskets as you and lots of stuff. I did get rid of a lot of my clothes but never my sewing stash. I like the real you. B
umm - I've been looking for that wooden sewing carrying case the one on top of the wicker basket that I am missing - wink -- haha -- jk! But I do have those you know.. All is well in a home that has tons of GAMES -- and books and books.. love it!
ReplyDeleteI'd say organized chaos, but it doesn't look like chaos. Probably like most things, it is in the eye of the beholder. Bet you know where everything is, except maybe your nephew. If all else fails, leave out a trail of lego.
ReplyDeleteReal is good. Really good. Life keeps going, doesn't it? And I hope you find your nephew soon ;)!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it could be a room out of my house!!! :)
ReplyDeleteTruth be told, I LOVE it! Now I know I'm not the only one who has this sort of problem. I still be your friend :o)!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Deborah
Oh girl I will stay your friend b/c I think I can out do you on this one. ((blush)) Your area looks pretty organized compared to my craft area. I will be working on it again this summer. Wow you have 4 yrs left...I have 8 yrs to go. [o=
ReplyDeleteI am a pile'r who wants to be a filer.
Blessings and ((HUGS))
-Mary
Got one of those rooms myself, actually yours looks pretty organized to me...just sayin
ReplyDeleteMy craft/sewing area is a disaster. I just close the door. No photos. No, I'm not going to keep it real. I don't let my real life friends go in there so I'm not publishing it on the world wide web either.
ReplyDeleteI like your room tho. I'll be your friend.
Oh, but I still love the room! Still! And you!!
ReplyDeleteMe and clutter. You should see mine. But I am doing better in the apartment. I may get control of the clutterbug yet. xoxo
Do you know what my eyes focused on?
ReplyDeleteThe wonderful large artwork/print on your bedroom wall!! I LOVE IT! :) Then.. your pretty quilt & pillows, your antique cross-stitch picture, the print next to it, the gorgeous wood furniture. The paint wall color, and how it looks so charming with the shabby chic table in the same color tone. Oh,,,your cute vintage blue suitcases. I would say your mild clutter didn't harm my view at all! lol
My bedroom closet is my biggest challenge. It has shelves to keep me organized, but I am overdue on purging paperwork. For some reason, that is where I have decided to hide it all!? It is my continual battle! :/
Thanks for sharing...:)
xoxo...Gloria
