"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! Father's day in God's country

This Father's day in pictures...

First we gathered in Mindi's backyard for praise, worship and scripture study.  We were missing many for early summer travel.  And we did miss them...  BBQ and fellowship followed.

We didn't get home until 5:30 at which time we enjoyed our own form of fellowship in our backyard.

At dusk we did what dad always wants to do on a lazy summer evening.  We went for a drive through  the ranch land searching the alfalfa fields for deer and elk.  We always get our fill of deer but the elk are much more elusive.  Often my eagle eye, hunter husband can spot them on a hillside.  He'll patiently try to get us to see what he sees, usually to no avail, and we are left to either trust him or decide that he just sees what he wants to.

Today was entirely different, and I need to eat a little crow.  Because, this time when he stopped the car and excitedly declared, "ELK!" I had to admit that they really do exist.  And not just in my hubby's imagination. They were beautiful and standing right there for us to see.  We really do live in God's country!  And He gave our dad a gift this Father's day.

Blessings, Debbie

  1. Oh, you DO live in God's country! All we have are deer dodging the bumpers and headlights. It sounds like you had a simply wonderful day of fellowship.

  10. Elk are HUGE indeed - like a horse -- use to go hunting with my husband many many year ago -- we never did really go to kill but to be in nature that's what we enjoyed -- have never kill an elk either - but sure have seen a lot of beauiful hidden places.. God's country indeed..everywhere! Enjoyed your photos.. hugs

  15. I used to love to snack on the fresh alfalfa when we were moving the irrigation lines (no nice wheel lines back "in the day"). And, taking a drive at the end of the day was a favorite pastime for us as well... I agree, you are in God's country. We all are. I know He love how you appreciate that! blessings ~ tanna

  16. It certainly is beautiful there where you live! It looks like everyone is enjoying being together! When I first saw the kids sitting on the brick patio I thought... Oh my they must be cooking their backsides sitting there like that. And then I remembered you didn't live near me. (We have already had egg-frying-on-the-sidewalk temps here.)

  24. Looks like a beautiful Father's Day! I love the shots you captured here: the sweet moments of your daughters with their dad, the deer & elk. You live in a lovely place. Art from God!! Your words about your husband finding the deer reminded me of trips I took with my family while growing up. We would take long road trips every summer to visit our grandparents far away. I always would spot the deer first, and everyone else would struggle to SEE THEM! I wish my vision was still that sharp...:) I DO still notice so many details though (with the aid of glasses) that most people would never notice! Something to still be thankful for.

    Blessings for a wonderful day!

    xoxo...Gloria
