"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! the new old me

You sit down at the keyboard and begin typing and know that you really can just pick up where you left off. Same view out the window, same coffee cup at your elbow, same dog at your feet and cat on the sill...  Well, that's what it's like for me anyway.  There is one thing that is different though.  I don't know that you would notice if I didn't tell you so I'm telling.  I am a new person.  Or maybe it's more accurate to say I am my old self.  Those of you who have been encouraging me the past couple of years while I played psychotic Debbie know what I'm talking about.  A lovely friend took me aside at a baby shower a month ago and said, "I've been looking for an opportunity to talk to you."  And that's how it all started (love you Kim). Thanks to progesterone and a high protein, low carb, gluten free, sugar free diet I am grinning and dancing and bending and jumping...  and I often find myself thinking, "I remember you!"

The family split forces this past weekend.  Larry and Audrey went to the valley to celebrate the graduation of my nephew and my son's girlfriend from George Fox University.  They also got a sneak peak at the adorable home my daughter and son in law are trying to buy (pray for a good appraisal).

Erin and I stayed here for her first horse show of the year.  It was a beautiful day... great weather and great results.

I am amazed at what having real energy feels like again.  I don't have to manufacture pleasure over events, I really do want to go and participate and enjoy and socialize.

"I remember you!"...  See, that keeps happening!  :)

Blessings, Debbie

  1. How wonderful, to have found what's been bugging you!
    Hurrah!
Not that I noticed anything negative before...you're too hard on yourself! But YOU know how you feel. :)

  2. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! Also glad to see "low carb" instead of "no carb", a girl just has to have a roll every once in a while:@)

  3. Oh, yay! Welcome back! Amazing, isn't it?
Will you tell me more about your new eating habits? I need that change, too.
Erin and her horse are just beautiful.

  4. I'd also like to hear more. I'm assuming from your mention of progesterone that it's partially a hormone/menopause issue? Last night I stumbled on a site that listed 34 symptoms of menopause. That site helped explain about 8 physical symptoms I've been bothered with/worrying about in recent years. But the most constant, bothersome one is just constant low energy. How I wish I could feel the excitement and desire to do what i used to do, and then just to have the energy to DO it. I find myself thinking about the things I want to accomplish, instead of doing them.

  6. I know exactly how you feel,,,I suffered from terrible joint pain and fatigue for the past four years. Out of desperation, having been to countless doctors over years with no success, I decided on December 15th, I decided to try a gluten free diet. It has been a game changer for me and I got my life back. It is a wonderful feeling to know I have the power to heal myself through diet. I have cut back on dairy but haven't cut sugar out...Could you post or email me more info on your new diet. Thanks for sharing this with us! My email is Laynegambel@gmail.com. Also, I did not start to feel better until about month after going gluten free. My skin texture actually changed and became silky smooth...I never even knew I had a rash on my chest as it had been there so long! My pain has greatly subsided but I am finding that every month brings more health. Gradually, my energy is coming back! They say it takes six months to get the gluten out of your system and I am almost there. Hope this helps and encourages you to Stay the Course!

  14. We recently went low carb ...but we have been off of sugar for almost 5 years..that has made a huge difference on my quality of life. I started taking fish oil and that has really been a good thing for me too:)

I turn 43 and since then I felt my whole life spin out of control.. this past week I couldn't hardly shake the blue's. I have been to the doctor and she would love to put me on hormones but I am to afraid to start taking them...I am learning to except I am changing... I pray for my family:) They are trying to get used to this new me:) Half crazy and half not:) :)

I am so glad I am not alone..thank you for sharing and hope to hear more about the new you in future posts...I have missed you!!!

  15. Way to go! You are just the inspiration and shot in the arm I need. I have been working on the diet, but I had been toying with trying progesterone cream. I tried it a few years ago, but I don't think I was "this old" yet.

I love your horse photos, and I have to tell you what you already know: Your rider is exquisitely beautiful.
