"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Mirror, mirror...

Note: the next series of steps were NOT on the dance card.  Brothers are accustomed to breaking into spontaneous embarrassing acts at any given moment... just ask Audrey.

I could have danced all night
I could have danced all night
and still have begged for more...

O.K. apparently there is a limit.  Cory hit his around 11:00 and Audrey just shortly after.  The lyrics above could have only been sung by Erin.  Her father and I had been sitting in a glazed stupor for quite some time.  The Ball is not for wimps.  In fact, it's a very good thing that our coach was not really a pumpkin as we would have been sitting in the middle of the highway 15 miles from home when the clock struck midnight.  Will we do it again?  Next time will be our 4th (here is a little something about our first) and I think Larry and I can finally be taken off of the novice list.  The kids have been pros since their second.  Yes, we enjoy this family workout too much to take it off our to do list!

Is this something that your family does?  What do you think about the complicated steps and the fast paced workout?  Am I totally showing my age when I say that I can only dance every other dance because I need a rest?!

Blessings, Debbie

Our community loves to put on our dancing shoes (although most times, the shoes come off...)! Looks like a lovely time was had by all. Thanks for sharing, ~Lisa

  19. OH MY GOSH!!! You guys all look so gorgeous! It looks like you did all the same dances as last Oct. Fun fun fun! I just have one question. How did just those dances on the card take you all night?? We normally do that many in an hour and a half to two hours. Just curious... :) I wish I could've been there, but the marathon was the next day. Bad timing.. ;( You guys need to come out for a ball!! I think the next one is in Nov. but i won't be going to that one. There should be one in Jan. and I'll keep you posted. The Hehn's just might make it out too. Miss you all more then you know!! :) These pictures made my day... ;)

  20. Your daughters are beautiful. Love the curled hair and flowers. Did you make the dresses? I had to laugh at 'that dancer'. At first I just looked at the photos and thought - what is this guy doing? Showing off all his 'moves'. She doesn't look impressed. But then after I read it was her brother...it all makes sense! Brothers are supposed to do that, don't you know?

  23. OK. It all looks like a huge amount of fun, but what was it? All ages? Dance cards? Did I miss a post?

  24. You betcha about that every other dance so you can rest thing! That's our creed when we do our Civil War Balls. Was this more a Regency era ball - by the period attire it appeared to be so. The dances would have been very similar except for the polka and the waltz which were coming into vogue in the 1860's but definitely not in the 1800's!

Everyone looks beautiful! Glad you had a good time and are game for more!

    Joy!

  25. You catch some great candids there, Debbie! Audrey while and after dancing, especially, and Erin getting help with her gown - that's a cute one, too.

That kind of dancing is a good workout, tho' I've done very little of it.

  26. That's a great question the Kathryn Ross had. What era was it?? It looked either Regency or Victorian. Or was the theme Masquerade and you could dress in whatever era? ;) This year we had a Count of Monte Cristo Ball, A Sci-fi Ball, a Civil War Ball, a Western Ball and the Nov. one that I'm missing is Victorian. :)

  30. This is hysterical!
Audrey is a good sport...Cory is a nut!
    Audrey's expressions are priceless.
    Erin's haircut is adorable.
    The dresses are stunning.
You and your hubby are troopers.
    This looks like a blast!

P.S. The above randomness is what happens to me after 12 straight days of blogging (so far!). I can hardly put two words together tonight, as my brain is in a fuzz. But this post made me smile! I love your family!!

  31. The girls look beautiful. What fun to dress up. What type of dancing are you doing? We learnt country dancing and Scottish dancing at school. Every 18 and 21 year birthday party and wedding seemed to feature it at one stage, so I'm glad I knew what to do. Not done it for...ahem...lots of years, but I bet the steps would come flooding back. Good fun!

(I'm the youngest of four, with a big brother, so I know how embarrassing brothers can be.)

  35. Oh, too tired here to say anything intelligent. But, oh how I laughed. Yes, my girls know all about brothers. And everyone looks STUNNING. I want to go dancing in a ball gown. After I've had a good night's sleep.

  37. Oh I wish I knew what this was all about - it looks WONDERFUL. it's a Family Ball? At the school? The dresses were so romantic! My daughter's would have given tons to go to a thing like that, and that all children of all ages were there dancing? FABULOUS. I want to do one of these!
