Chapter 68~
Finally the peaks and valleys of life are becoming less precipitous. The youthful vigor that fueled worldly passions has resigned itself quietly but willingly to the wiser, more mature direction that seems to come with the title Grandfather. The physical and emotional energy banks are maintaining a more consistent balance ~ there may not be as much in savings, but the account is less volatile, more static. Perhaps it's responding to the rhythm of purposeful living. Looking back, he thought he had it all. Seeing now, it was just a shadow of sweet things on the horizon... Another year. A good year.

Yes, you are very blessed to live so close to family. I wish my mom lived closer. She turned 69 in August and although I talk to her several times a week, it's not the same as a good ol' sit down chit-chat!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Monday! xx
Well, I guess you all had a nice day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice tribute to your father. Really like the thought of what is now is "just a shadow of sweet things on the horizon".
ReplyDeleteWishing your father a very Happy Birthday.xxx
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your daddy! I see far less than 68 candles, though. ;)
ReplyDeleteSome loely thoughts, well written.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely lovely. You are such a wordsmith, my friend. My papa is 71 and lives 3.5 hours away; I don't see him nearly enough. Thankfully, he's coming for a visit this weekend, and I can't wait to give him a hug and tell him how much I love him. :) ~Lisa
ReplyDeleteVery sweet thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!! This weekend we will celebrate with my parents....also 68 years. :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautifully said.
ReplyDeleteWhat a joy. Glad you all had a happy birthday WITH him! :)
ReplyDeletePrecious and said so well....my Dad is now a great-grand from my sister's son...life does get sweeter, because what you start to treasure are those things that really should be treasured.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to him.
I am behind so am putting the puzzle pieces together for this post with the previous one.
ReplyDeleteI love this. I could have written it about my own dad, even though he didn't live to that ripe age. I miss him. You are so very, very blessed.
I would love to live near family! But I have to be satisfied with a 5 hour driving distance. The cake looks extra delicious :)
ReplyDeleteYou make him proud!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your father....hope it's a wonderful year!
ReplyDeleteSo very sweet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, touching description of life lived well! Happy Birthday to your father, and may the Lord grant him many more!
ReplyDelete(I am deeply humbled by your words to me...and am rendered speechless. Of course, any good thing is by His grace! Much love to you...)
Very nice, Happy B-Day to your Dad-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your father.
ReplyDeleteWe use a code for the candles. Six of one colour and 8 of another. Although I seem to remember when my Great-Grandfather turned 100, he had all the candles. I can only imagine that they worked as a team to light them.
Happy Birthday again to your father. I love the wording describing his state in life. JB
ReplyDeleteI like this Happy Birthday to your Dad. :) B
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your Daddy! Mine turned 84 this summer. Looks like your dad will have many more to come, then!
ReplyDeleteJoy!
Kathy
My dad turned 71 this summer. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet words for your father! And, how lovely to have him close by for a party. Looks like a great time!
ReplyDeleteWould you like me to call the fire brigade now?
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your dad and isn't he lucky to have a wonderful daughter like you. Hugs Maa.
Beautiful reflections on a happy birthday.
ReplyDeleteI hope that your father had a wonderful birthday.
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks delicious, and I enjoyed reading the quote as well. Such beautiful words for a special person. :)
Oh, that's a GOOD age! It sounds like your papa has invested in humans, loving them with holy love.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your dad. What a treasure he has in you!
ReplyDeleteIf your father's energy has stabilized, he is a different kind of man than my father. Trip wires everywhere. And yet, I still like him.
