"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! fourteen

Fourteen is a magic number.  Fourteen brings transformation that happens so fast you think you are in the twilight zone.  One minute you have the same little tomboy that you've had since she was 9 (she was mostly girly before then) the next you have this beautiful young woman that surprises you with her new found grace.  Suddenly clothes are fitting differently.  Not because she's changed size... it's just the distribution.

Audrey is my black and white girl, she can't stand injustice.  She is pretty and graceful, tender and very funny.  She is loyal.  She is a nurturer~  Baby's love her, and she adores them...  The only thing wrong with Audrey is that she is fourteen!  You understand that after fourteen comes fifteen, then sixteen, seventeen... If you are a mother you've seen how the years fly by.  So if years are flying and she's fourteen...   Well, she does say that she's never getting married and she's going to live with us forever.  Hmm, there are two things wrong with Audrey.

1.  She's fourteen
2.  She's a liar

Audrey, you are our delight and if your dad and I could keep you forever we would try!  But we know that the Lord has a much better plan for someone so appealing... :)  Happy Birthday sweetie!

Blessings, Debbie

  6. Fleeting days to be sure, Debbie. My Audrey is Bethany and she was fourteen yesterday. These days, however, she's twenty-four! Still lives with us - and won't marry until God brings her "the" man. Glory!
    EnJOY her!

  7. Happy Birthday, sweet Audrey! Fourteen is a fine age. I have loved so many fourteen year old wonders and now I shall love eleven year old firecrackers for a time! I liked asking my eighth graders what kind of "ah ha" moments they experienced during this all-important year. I remember so much about my fourteenth year. My brain was so receptive and imaginative. She is blessed to have a mama who adores her. Very blessed.

  11. Happy Birthday to your girl! We just had our oldest hit 13 in June, and that was a shock to my system! They just grow up so stinkin' fast, don't they?

I hope her day is a special one. She sounds like a wonderful young woman.

  12. Happy Birthday. Yah! That means birthday cake.
My baby turned 14 on the 25 of July. I look at him, tall and skinny, and can see the man he is becoming. He is my 'surprise blessing' and I am so happy that God gave him to me to raise.xx

  17. Oh my. My youngest son turns 13 this Saturday and my youngest daughter turns 11 in October. The years do indeed fly by. My sweeties, like yours, are changing. While I enjoy watching them grow and mature, I wax melancholy as their childhoods slip away...

A happy 14th to your lovely daughter! Blessings, ~Lisa

  19. Well, Mom, I think birthdays are hard when they start getting older. Heck, every time one of my grand babies has a birthday I freak. I think it is nice she wants to stay at home forever. Have a lovely day.

  21. Happy Birthday to Audrey! You should be used to this growing up thing since you've already been through it with the others. I was shocked when my 15 year old sprouted hair on his legs and got a bit taller than me. Yikes! That was very strange. Both my boys are October babies and will be 16 and 13. No more tweens around here. :/ Hope your day is great. Tammy

  31. Awwwww...Happy Birthday to your dear, beautiful Audrey! She sounds like such a delightful young lady. I love a black and white thinker...and a girl who loves babies.

I agree with your assessment. I say these things so much that it feels "cliche": "Time flies." "Children grow up so quickly." But IT IS TRUE! (And we're not liars. ~grin~)

  32. Happy Birthday, Audrey! We know you're not really lying, just probably mistaken. I assure you that life does not go according to plan (well, not our plan, that is). That doesn't mean we shouldn't have plans - just be flexible! :)

  37. Well I know what we were both doing 14 years ago, not getting any sleep! My son was born on the 25th july and do I know that there is a teenager in the house.
Your daughter is beautiful and you have a lovely family......

  38. Audrey,
I miss you terribly you pink panda woozy-woozle you. I miss our videos, your silliness, your smile, your laugh, and I even miss the arguments we used to have other little things like who gets the bed and who gets the floor. I love you like the pet unicorn that I never had, and if I could spend just one day with you I'd be happy then a woodchuck chuckin wood.
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

  39. How did I miss this before? But maybe it's good that I did. In my late state of mind, I'd have drowned myself, reading it. But I think I'm a little better now. Or would be if I could just sleep. She's beautiful. And yes, she's lying. But once, Murphy - who was about four - as I put him to bed looked up at me and said, "Do I have to leave you some day? I don't want to leave you someday." And I looked down at him and said, "You NEVER have to leave me, unless you want to." I wasn't lying. I just wasn't telling him quite the whole truth.

  40. She's beautiful! I totally understand. I'm beginning to see those same glimpses in my just recently turned thirteen year old.

    Blessings!
    Deborah
