2 bargains and a cake

I told you that I would share some of my purchases from this weekend.  Today I'm showing 2 of my yard sale finds. I love going to antique stores.  But, I don't love shopping at antique stores.  They are just where I do some of my research.  After I remind myself how expensive the things I love are, I have a better idea of what I'm looking for at yard sales, estate sales and thrift stores.

These .50 cent vintage bark cloth pillow covers, I like!  They will keep me cozy when I'm lazing in my tree swing.  They will be stuffed with 2 feather pillows that I will make from a brand new one purchased for $2.00. Had I bought something similar at the antique store it would have been the equivalent in cash to at least 2 days food for my family.  I just wouldn't do it.

This is the .50 cent apron that jumped into my hands at the first sale as we were leaving town.  Cute huh?

It's a good thing I grabbed it because this afternoon Audrey needed to protect her clothes when she decided to make and decorate a cake for prayer meeting.  I'll share more finds from the weekend later!

Blessings, Debbie

  1. Very pretty Debbie. I love browsing the expensive stores and then seeing what I can find at a decent price or else trying to make it myself. The apron you found is something I would love to try my hand at doing and of course I need a cake too! xx

  10. Ha! Ha! I "research" at antique stores, too! What great finds - the bark cloth pillow covers. I buy bark cloth ANYthing with an eye to repurposing. Speaking of which, it's about time I get TO it (repurposing)!

I would have sprung for that apron in a jiffy! And I can't wait to hear the rest of the story about the cake. I'm ♥ing it already.

  14. Love the bark cloth!!! You hurry and get those made for yourself.....and enjoy every moment laying on them!!!! :)
Aprons are always on my radar....I really like vintage, but I use them so much they get really thin....I am considering making a few for myself out of vintage terry cloth table cloths (which I always pick since we use them on the seats in our pontoon-so we don't stick to the vinyl seats).

  16. I'm with you on this completely. I love my vintage stuff, but I want it at thrift prices.

And the apron? Too cute! I'm an apron gal so I love to see other apron wearers as well.

  18. Clever lady - but I do the same thing. Always hoping to find the FIND at a yard sale for 50 cents that I saw at an antique shop for $50! Once in a while I get the treasure. Always a triumph! Looks like you are doing some fist pumping with that pillow!
    Joy!

Oh your comment on swinging...loved it, I think making our kids laugh is the best thing..and you know what, I got a little motion sickness when I was swinging and kept thinking "why does this make me sick"....Hugs

  25. What a nifty idea, doing your research in antique shops! I so love it when I make that find! Little dance of joy. Perfect for what you need and only pennies. Not the same effect, at all, if it is "want" instead of "need".

The cake looks yummy. Audrey has so much patience.

  27. The apron is a treasure. I love how they would cross stitch designs on gingham fabric. I have taught Charlotte how to cross stitch in that manner.

The cake's icing color is perfect! The message too.
