"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. you'll have to take my word for it

Here is the most pathetic post ever.  This evening we thought our son would be using the truck for a job.  Turns out the contractor wasn't quite ready for him yet so we could take the boat out after all.  As I mentioned before, the reservoir is just 10 minutes away so the girls threw on their swimsuits and we were quickly out the door.  We were putting into the water at 7pm and it was gorgeous.

I loaded the camera, because that's what I do (As a mama!  You thought I meant  as a blogger didn't you?).  I was excited to have this photo opportunity as the girls would be tubing and I knew the light would be amazing!
So, as soon as I got out of the truck, I began snapping... and this is all I got.  The battery needed to be recharged.

I considered describing the amazing shots I missed.  The way the speed of the boat cut the wake and the brightly colored tube would almost catch air as it careened back and forth behind it.  The way ponytails flew, and so did the spray.  The way you had faceted water sparkling as far as the eye could see and only black silhouettes of girls and tube when riding away from the sun, me always looking back into it to keep my eye on the daredevils.  Then when we turned around and they were looking into the sun, every nuance was in sharp focus... for me, not the camera.  Aargh!  I thought about telling you all that, but then decided against it. The really hot weather hasn't even gotten here yet.  There will be many more perfect evenings on the lake and as they say... A picture's worth a thousand words.  So next time... so long as dumb-dumb remembers to charge the battery!

Blessings,  Debbie

  1. Don't you HATE that?!!! I once took scads of pictures at our niece's wedding...including tender shots of my then 6-year-old daughter dancing with her daddy...only to discover later that I had not remembered to load any FILM into my camera! Blah.

But I'll just bet that your next boating/tubing album will be filled with delightful shots. Please be sure to share them with us. :-)

(So now I'm adding "A Love for Coconut Mocha Frappuccinos" to our list of commonalities...)

  2. I almost enjoyed reading your description as much as I would have enjoyed pictures! It sounds lovely, and I can just imagine the spray of diamond water and the black shadows dancing behind the boat-sounds lovely! However, I do understand the frustration of having a dead camera battery at the worst possible time! That seems to happen to me only too often!

  3. Well the shots you got shows how pretty it is there...and you went, yea!!!

It is so hot here that the lakes are empty..funny to see. We will be at 108 this week.

I have done that so many times also...the battery goes out...now everyone uses their phones...I have boxes of pictures I still need to do something with. Long before I started to blog. LOL

I hope you enjoyed the song this morning on my blog..I thought of all us mothers when he starts the song out about picking up the toys for the 15th time in a day....we are starting on getting on schedule...bedtimes, waking up....it is right around the corner.

Now I wished I could enjoy some evenings like you have....it even makes me want a boat!

  4. So many times I have forgotten my camera and kicked my self for it later. Oh the pictures I have missed! Oh well, like you said there will be a next time. :)

I'm writing out the pattern for the Babylove Blanket and was wondering if you'd want to take a look at it for me and see if it even makes sense? Hehe. No need to test knit it, I've just had a hard time writing it out so that others can understand it, so I need fresh brain. :) If you're interested just shoot me an email to bitoflifeblog @ gmail.com.

    Happy August!

  5. Well I think the pictures that you did take are lovely. I do think the light is so pretty and the water looks clear as glass.
I bet it was fun and I loved your descriptions.
My Grandpa lived in Bend and he lived right on the Deschutes River. We had so much fun playing in it in the summer. It is beautiful there in the summer, quite like no place else I have ever visited. I just thought of it when I saw the name of your boat.

  6. I love the name of your blog! I am your newest follower. I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. I barely know how to use the camera! It is just nice that you have those memories to tuck away, whether they are caught on film or not. I hope that you will visit my blog too and become blogging friends. Blessings, Catherine xo

  7. Oh no you don't! Do not denigrate the amazing power of your words. I was right there in the boat with you and I saw it all and not because of a picture, which is way too easy anyway, because of your words.

Blessings to you on this beautiful Monday!!

  10. I always forget my camera. The pictures that I've missed are always better than any that I've ever taken. But isn't that how it always is?

  11. Sorry about the battery...that has happened to me before, too. Friday night I had big plans to document our visit to the Ronald McDonald house, but left my camera at home.I was so undone! Someone else brought a camera, but now I have to wait for her to send me the pics so I can post about it.Anyway, you did capture the beautiful day...the glorious sky, the hills and trees and that ever so inviting water. I think we got the picture! ha! ha!

  15. Grr - that has happened to me too! But I've even left the tiny little thing called a chip that the camera stores the photos on - out of the camera and no place to bye another one grr!
Looking forward to the next time..at the lake!

  16. Haha! Happens to me all the time. I carry spares in the case, but half the time I don't carry the case with me. I've given up on rechargables...useless. It's cheaper for me to buy a box of batteries. Maa

  18. I have told this story myself. Except without the lake. Sadly, without the lake. Your words did the trick, though - and that shot of the lovely hills. So I am happy.

  19. Hehehe! You won't be the first one to do that, nor will you be the last. I do know what you mean about the lighting though. It is perfect! I do hope you have more opportunities.

    Blessings!
    Deborah
