"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! who needs a groundhog? (sorry punxsutawney phil)

Guess who's gettin' busy... and it's not the Easter Bunny!  Hurray for longer days.  I took a walk the other afternoon.  Around the house I strolled with my camera looking for signs of spring.  I got up close and personal with many of the shrubs and trees that make their residence on our property.  Nada.  No sprouts, shoots, buds...  But then my hubby came in with his sweatshirt pocket full of these beauties and I was satisfied.  We are getting closer.  The hens say it's so.

Blessings, Debbie

  3. I'm so dumb that I didn't know hens laid more eggs in the spring. Or is it that they don't lay any at all in the winter?

Now, you have sent me off on a google adventure.

  10. And we are getting the traditional basketball tournament snows around here. :) Love home eggs - nice and brown - we used to have chickens when I was a kid - I remember we had some special recipes for when our egg supplies exceeded our ability to eat them easily (we had a large quantity of hens and sold eggs to various people in town - on Saturday mornings we would wash the eggs with vinegar, sort them and put them in cartons while watching cartoons).

  13. Yay for eggs! One of the signs of spring around here are all the dead skunks in the road. Sad, but true. I'm loving the longer days, too.

Oh my...the word verification is a frustrating mystery. I can't figure out what word it is trying to get me to type. I think it might be an IQ test and I am failing miserably. Trying one more time........

  15. Oh, gosh, Debbie - you don't have anything sprouting yet? My roses have growth on them, in a way I don't usually see till late March when I'm ready to prune. In fact, I am planning to take a picture of it today.

But how lovely to have eggs! :)

  26. My garden is a bit confused this year, my candytuft and daffodils are blooming. I have tried to tell them it's only February and this is much too early but....we will have to watch the weather and protect what we can when the inevitable cold snap returns

  30. Those beautiful brown eggs bring back childhood memories . . . of chicken coops, straw nests, still-warm eggs, putting out chicken feed, and even a very mean rooster!
