"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! the tree

Tradition states that cheese and crackers, smoked salmon and pickles must be eaten near a stream if one is to have any luck finding the perfect tree.  Hot apple cider to wash it all down is just a little extra insurance.  Apparently Audrey knew just how to lay it all out seeing as the perfect tree did in fact make it into our pick-up and will soon be gracing the bay window in our living room.  Actually, we don't believe in luck, we believe in divine providence.  And just in case we should be misunderstood, the girls left a memorial stone in the spot where we were blessed with our forest gift.

Tomorrow we hope to bedeck this tree with colored lights (last year we did white, much to Audrey's chagrin, and promised her that the next tree would have colored), gingerbread, dried orange slices, strung popcorn and cranberries and... uh oh.  This tree is sounding a bit too tasty for the animals to resist!

Erin picked a tree for her bedroom too.  She will use the white lights and would like to use my antique glass ornament collection.  Uhmmm.  So, somebody remind me why dogs and cats are a good idea...

Blessings, Debbie

  1. What a WONDERFUL tradition! He IS our Rock; and all His ways are perfect (so says His Word). You honor Him well with your tradition. His Providence shines through your family. I'll look forward to seeing the decorated trees - large and small.

  5. We always do colored lights, one of my husband's few requests. I think food always tastes better outside for some reason so your meal must have been awesome!!

  11. Are you able to just go and cut down your chosen tree for free, that's amazing...........we can choose a tree from a 'christmas tree farm', but they are very expensive.........last year we paid £40 for the privilidge............I'm almost tempted to buy an artificial one and use it every year, but I know it wouldn't feel the same. x

  12. Those are exactly the kind of trees that I love...short needles and lots of spaces between branches to show off the ornaments. Can't wait to see yours all decorated. The lucky snack? Never heard of such a thing. Hmmm.

  18. Oh, this brings back such good memories of the days when we would go out and choose our tree. (Alas, those days came to an end the year that our tree has some sort of blight that caused its needles to drop like crazy (and I mean crazy!)...and we had to take it out and go buy an artificial tree 3 days before Christmas! Stress!)
Looking forward to seeing your tree dressed in its finery! :-D
