"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! intentionally unintentional

When I plant my outdoor planters I use a style I've claimed as my own.  I've dubbed it 'Intentionally Unintentional'.  Now, it may just look haphazard, but you must understand that it takes real effort to make things seem like you don't know what you're doing.  If you want things to look as if they are just popping up all willy-nilly you need to do some planning!  And so this next week I'll be digging through my flower seed packets, sorting, and ordering my disorder.  Which ones will get to fight with the Delphinium for room in the whiskey barrel ?  What might I drizzle along the fence line so that people think the birds are responsible?

Oh, I just love planning my chaos...

Blessings, Debbie

  1. Hmmmmm. You've got me rethinkin' the chaos in OUR flower beds now! I look forward to seeing the results of your intentional intentionality in the future.

  2. My Mother in-law and daughter have that knack of planting flowers anywhere and they look like a magazine cover. Me?...like something went terribly haywire!
Love the name Beatrix Potter. You now have a chicken in SC...I'll take care of her for you so
    don't worry.

  4. Oh love this...I have what I call a road kill planter...it was throw on the road side and looks run over...and yet I enjoy doing just what you have done here. Benjamin has a way of helping a little to much and I am never sure what we will get at the end....LOL

Oh yes the caramels are easy!! I did them late in the day and left them over night. They harden fast. It is very fun. Our biggest struggle was figuring out the size of the paper wrappers needed to be.

Blessings to you...what an awesome friend you are! Your friend's kids are in good hands.

  6. I love the way this looks. On payday I am headed out to the nursery to pick up some pansies for my window boxes. I can't wait for things to look all cheery outside my front door.

  10. I know what you mean...We have a little flower in our area called Black Eye Susan that grows unaided along the roadways and in the woods. I've been trying for three years to get them to grow "naturally" in my front yard...finally this year a crop has popped up. Everyone thinks they just grew there. Ha!

  14. Gosh seeing the calf bucket made me remember feeding calves out of one of those. So cool. I think it all looks so pretty. It is always important to do what makes you happy. I mean the creative part.

  19. I love your bucket planter! I do the same thing by planting flowers and herbs in old teapots and pots. I think it looks whimsical and fun!

  21. I *musst* love that look because most of my gardening is haphazard. Mine just doesn't look good like yours does. It looks like a lady left a pot to its own imagination.

Which is usually what I've done.

  26. oh that is so cute! I totally 'get it'. Reminds me of when hubby is waiting for me to put my face on. I tell him it takes a lot of work to get this 'natural' look!
