"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! dreamer

Living in town is hard if horses are your passion.  Erin has been passionate about horses for years.  I thought it was just glorified dreaming (she's known to be our dreamer), but time has definitely proven otherwise.  3 years ago, Providence brought about a wonderful opportunity.  A woman that grandma goes to church with agreed to have Erin out to the house to visit her Welsh ponies.  Helen breeds show ponies on her gorgeous mini ranch 12 miles from our house.

Long story short,  Erin has been spending several days a month these past few years with Helen, the 'girls', and Linden, the Stallion.  She fetches and brings them to the barn for grooming which she enjoys immensely. She's been called in the middle of the night to come and watch the birth of the foals.  (May I pat my husband and I on the back right here seeing as Erin doesn't drive herself, don't you know).  Yawn.

Now Erin is the house sitter when Dick and Helen have to go out of town.  She hires her sister to assist.  I can't begin to tell you how good this has been for her.  She sets her alarm for the morning feedings and she and Audrey make the rounds.  It takes about 1 hour from start to finish.  The same routine for the evening feeding.  Helen leaves a detailed list with dietary supplements and special instructions.

...Erin just popped in and read over my shoulder piping in with, "not Linden, I've never groomed him in my life.  All I've done is hold the rope through the fence while Helen grooms him."  I stand corrected.  At least she doesn't roll her eyes at my ignorance.  She's a good girl.

Blessings, Debbie

  1. Beautiful horses. My son's girlfriend is a horse owner and the wee one here loves to ride. Good to know that your Erin has farm experience and is a good ranch hand. Whenever she comes to the East coast to visist Beatrix she'll be able to earn her keep. ;).

  4. Oh God is so faithful to us all. He saw the desire of her heart and He made a way. Our oldest was mentored by a home builder, one of the best in our area, our son is now a custom home builder himself. It was something we couldn't have provided, but God did.

Great pictures...so enjoyed. May she always remember how God made a way.

  7. It is wonderful when a young person finds what they love. My middle boy had/has a love of cars (I know most boys do:) but he's grown his into a career that he really enjoys. I'm glad Erin is able to do what she enjoys and that she has been given this opportunity.

  12. My daughter did the same thing at a stables not far from us for about 3 years when she was younger. She would love to live in the country one day so she could have a horse. In answer to your questions.... yes it was a poisonous snake, but they stay in the very slow moving (almost still) part of the creek. I waded in the faster moving part...I'm no dummy! :-) Thanks for dropping by!
