rag balls...

I actually picked up two of these at the Thrift a couple of months ago for .25 cents.  I love that all of the pre-work is done for me already.  Now I'm not sure what to do with them. Any ideas?

  1. Make a rag rug! I think soulemama has something on her blog on how to do it. I know it's in one of her books. What a wonderful thrifting find.
    Warmly,

  2. Oh Debbie I had to come back and comment on the comment you made on my blog...yes what would we do without children, and this "no spring chicken" age 50 woman, well that isn't my grandson...it is my son! Yes we have six children from the age of 27 to age 5!!! The little 5 year old is our cherry on top and our joy! We are waiting on that grand baby...our son has been married 5 years, so we are hoping for that title soon. Yes if you are subtracting..I was pregnant at the wedding. LOL

Enjoy your yarn and your creative eye will lead you to something wonderful.

  3. What a pretty kitty!

As for the ball - I have no ideas for you, but it reminds me of a garland I made for our Christmas tree - from strips of fabric. After, I decided to wash it (by hand, and hung to dry), but what a mess it is now! It needs to be untwisted and then ironed. I don't know if I'll get to it before next December! I rather dread it.

  5. I am not a cat person, so I can think of no good use for the cat.

Now, if you are talking the rag balls, that's a different story! How about crocheting a mini rag rug for the middle of the kitchen table?

  6. No clever ideas from me I'm afraid, but I just love the colour of the ball AND the way your kitty is eyeing it off! :)

  11. Yes Debbie,

I think a rag rug might be the go or you could perhaps knit it up into a bag if the fabric isn't to weighty. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Love you pussy cat.

  12. I remember my grandma would braid strips of fabric and make place mats and rugs- they never seemed to lay flat though but the colors were pretty. Thanks for commenting on my blog. I love your cat.

  16. Hello! Thank you for your sweet comment!
Your cat is really wonderful! That blue ball could me a carpet or a bag (crochet). I had fun when I made a small carpet with old t-shirts!
Your poem is the best! Have a lovely weekend! Teje

  17. What a great photo! The way your (gorgeous) gray cat is looking at that enormous ball with suspicion: "What kind of yarn is *that*?"

If you aren't into braiding and sewing, I would knit up a swatch and see what comes to mind. A knitted rag rug might be just the thing.

  18. I like your rag balls, I think I would just put them in a wooden bowl. I like your choice of books in your sidebar. My Charlotte Mason Companion is dog eared and tired as is my Hidden Art of Homemaking. Thank you for your comment. Yes, three tables, I was so excited. It was like those verses I clung onto when they were small about the olive trees around your table.
I loved your poem by the way,
So glad you stopped by, I really like your blog.

  19. Hi No Spring Chicken, thanks for your comment on my blog.
I had to read your poem twice and burst out laughing. It's too cute.

First I think that I would make a small ball for the cute kitty to play with and maybe try my hand at weaving a mat for the bathroom if it's made of absorbent cotton also using cotton twine to keep it tight. I'd probably use some to tie my tomato plants if there was some left, to keep them from dragging on the ground.

Or as Kim suggested I'd just keep them in a wooden bowl. JB

  21. Hello
Love that colour blue. Thanks for the blog visit and I do apologise that I forgot that vital bit of info.
Here is the web site I use for the cake recipe. I also add approx 1/4 cup of poppy seeds. Supper easy and super yum.
