"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! knit and thrift

Time To Rise
by Robert Louis Stevenson

A birdie with a yellow bill
Hopped upon the window sill,
Cocked his shining eye and said:
"Aint you 'shamed, you sleepy-head?"

Joining Ginnys' yarn along.
The knit:  I'm still working on Pickles plain vest.  My concern over having enough yarn to finish the job seems to be unfounded ~ so far, so good!  I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

The read:  I wanted to share my latest thrifting treasure; Robert Louis Stevenson's A child's Garden of Verses illustrated by Hilda Boswell.  We already own the volume illustrated by Tasha Tudor (of whom I am a tremendous fan) but these illustrations are sooo sweet!  Absolutely frame-worthy if only I had the nerve to ruin a book.  Not happenin'!

Blessings,  Debbie

  1. So glad you are going to have enough yarn to finish the vest.
I have seen others who take books apart and frame the pictures: I have never had the nerve. What if someone wants to read the book?!

  4. Hi Debbie, How clever you are! I would love to have the talent to knit anything. Your work is gorgeous!!! And what a delightful find with the book. I love books and I love reading, with the way technology is going I pray books will still be around for many more generations. Wishing you a pleasant day! Blessings, Kerrie

  5. I know the feeling, running out of yarn in the middle of a project is not fun at all. My fingers are crossed too! I love the colours you're using.

  6. I just wish so much that I had the talent to knit. I've tried, but I think it's my left handedness or something. Everyone who ever tried to teach me was right handed.

I also love A Child's Garden of Verses and would treasure as many volumes as I could find.

  10. My Mom used to knit all sorts of wonderful sweaters for me! I love those. You found a lovely book! I have that one that was given to me when I was about 8, with Tasha Tudor illustrations. I read all those poems to my children too. Timeless.

  11. I love Robert Louis Stevenson's "verses", too. When I was a little girl, I received A Child's Garden of Verses for Christmas, and I read those poems over and over again until I memorized them all. The copy you found looks like a real treasure. Your vest is coming along very nicely! The colors are so lovely--they look like spring.

  12. I think I would find the illustrations by Hilda Boswell to be as cute as pie judging by the cover of the book. Your attractive photograph looks like it could be in a printed knitting magazine. You have an eye for greens. I like seeing your work in progress. I'm knitting with two greens presently. Elizabeth Z's one color in each hand works well for checks - but even after years I'm still awkward at it. Still, I like the end result.
