"Let's be cheerful"! We have no more right to steal the brightness out of the day for our own family than we have to steal the purse of a stranger. Let us be as careful that our homes are furnished with pleasant & happy thoughts as we are that the rugs are the right color and texture & the furniture comfortable and beautiful"! part the second...

As usual, those who were not staying with us from out of town began showing up around 9:30 a.m..  There were old friends, new friends and of course our beloved family.  The city's festivities were moved to the park in the center of town this year rather than being where they belong, in the park behind our house.  We've been walking the 50 or so steps to the annual 4th in the park celebration for the past 21 years.  It was a bit disconcerting to have to walk a quarter mile this time.  ;)  We served lunch at noon and barbequed at 5:30...

After dinner most everyone loaded up and headed for part the third.  Want to come?  Hop on in!  I promise you won't be disappointed...

Blessings, Debbie

  1. Oooh. Love the banner, love the watermelonsicles and love the love that shows in every picture. Debbie, you are such an inspiration to me...a Godly woman. I hope there's room in the van for me!

  2. Debbie, this is just right up my ally, families and friends getting together making memories. Though our family lives so far away and don't get home that often, we have so many memories of the times they did get home and of the grandchildren visiting during the summer! The photos you have shared tell of so much love, I especially enjoyed the photo of the two ladies with their arms around each other, very sweet. Thank you for sharing.
    Hugs,
    Sue

  8. It already sounds like it was a pretty full day with the splash and dash the girls participated in -- kudos to them! That's quite an accomplishment for each of them. Have a great rest of the week. Tammy

  9. So happy you are back and filling us in. Whoever said the days of summer are lazy?

We are having days of rain, steadily pouring much needed moisture on thirsty places and things. I sense my vegetation is having a party.

  19. Looks like our back yard on the day, too. I tried starting to journal that day, but along with the rest of the truly important things in my life, it has slipped to the backburner. It was wonderful to be able to put work and projects and covering bases to the back over the holiday and just focus on the blessings of the moment. I love to know that you were happy and with so many who are lucky enough to know you and love you around for the celebration.
